what is the difference between an Australian Rules football and a rugby union football?
April 5th, 2010 | by admin |I am in South America and got hold of a gilbert no.5 rugby union ball because they do not have Aussie rules footballs. It doesn’t seem much different, will it be noticeably different to play with?

I think an AFL ball is red and less pointy. I haven’t seen an AFL ball since school

well one major difference is the type of leather an AFL ball uses. because most rugby balls are gripped they use a different type of material while AFL balls use genuine leather and proper match balls will usually cost about $160 AUS. Another is that AFL balls are a lot skinnier rather than round but yes you can use rugby balls but you will notice a difference when kicking an AFL ball to a rugby ball
